Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.

But what Starr does—or does not—say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

Want more of Garden Heights? Catch Maverick and Seven’s story in Concrete Rose, Angie Thomas's powerful prequel to The Hate U Give.

This book is incredibly well-written and interesting! When I first started reading it, I didn't think I would be this hooked on to the story! I love how she gives all perspectives of the story! Ik this might be relatable to many people of the black community and it breaks my heart! This book made a movement in my heart and hopefully one day we'll stop all the injustice and racism towards the black peole! BLM ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

This book made me realize that the thing that happen in the book actually happen in real life. I don't know why but for some reason after reading the book I had a moment and said " wow this is absolutely terrible" that things like this go on it real life. Being a black Canadian female teenager I can just say honestly , I could not relate to the main character at all maybe it's the school i go to or the neighborhood i live in but I never have experienced the same things she experienced. But it is still good to know that people experience this stuff on a day to fay bases.

No it is the hate blacks give! Just like Africa's hatred and murder of Whites in Africa! Now that Elon has spoken up for Whites, justice will be served!
