It's not a bad Star Trek novel, but it's a long way from being a good one. The worst bit would have to be the plot's framing device, which is basically the author taking a richly deserved but still annoying and out-of-place series of cheap shots at the terrible writing of Star Trek: Enterprise's series finale. That aside, the only really jarring disconnect is that the author seems to have forgotten that Section 31 is something Archer and Reed don't approve of.
