About this ebook

#1 New York Times Bestseller

“Funny and smart as hell” (Bill Gates), Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half showcases her unique voice, leaping wit, and her ability to capture complex emotions with deceptively simple illustrations.

FROM THE PUBLISHER:
Every time Allie Brosh posts something new on her hugely popular blog Hyperbole and a Half the internet rejoices.

This full-color, beautifully illustrated edition features more than fifty percent new content, with ten never-before-seen essays and one wholly revised and expanded piece as well as classics from the website like, “The God of Cake,” “Dogs Don’t Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving,” and her astonishing, “Adventures in Depression,” and “Depression Part Two,” which have been hailed as some of the most insightful meditations on the disease ever written.

Brosh’s debut marks the launch of a major new American humorist who will surely make even the biggest scrooge or snob laugh. We dare you not to.

FROM THE AUTHOR:
This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative—like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it—but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book:

Pictures
Words
Stories about things that happened to me
Stories about things that happened to other people because of me
Eight billion dollars*
Stories about dogs
The secret to eternal happiness*

*These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!

It is not funny. Nothing funny about this book. People must have a sick sense of humor to find depression, tantrums, and poor life choices funny. The pictures are crude. To think these stories could be real is just an embarrassment. I hope these stories are not real. This book is a bunch of uninteresting short stories that are supposed to make you empathize with the character or author. I believe this book was a way for the author to express her self loathing and have a pity party for herself and share it with others, just why? This book is not ment for adults and I really don't suggest it for children either because of all the curse words. I have no idea who her demographic is supposed to be. I regret buying this book. Wasted my money. It too expensive for such a blah book. Nothing good to say about this book. Why is this considered a funny book?

Allie's work is amazing, but most of the book is stuff that's already on the blog. For the hefty price tag, I was expecting a way bigger chunk of new material. I feel a little bamboozled for having paid that much for something I could have, and have already, read for free. With all that said, I still loved it. Just the price point doesn't fit the small amount of new material.

I discovered Allie's blog a couple of years ago and have been enthralled and amused by the vast collection of humorous posts. When I heard she was coming out with a book, I was extremely happy. Not just because there would be more comical goodness, but also because I would have a chance to show some support for all of Allie's years of hard work. I would recommend this book to anyone. The drawings complement the stories so well, it's hard to imagine the stories without the pictures. Thank you, Allie!
