Nice short story. However for me it failed to trump "The Children of Time". Probably due to a bit of lack of the spider's perspective as compared to the book mentioned earlier. A good side read after it regardless :)

Shorter than I would have liked, but an excellent read. A reminder that it is our choices—not the circumstances of our births—that make us good or bad in the end. All glory to Enth, Hero of the Dark!

I was afraid this one would be a weak Tolkien clone, but Tchaikovsky is a great story teller and the flawed and oh so human characters remind me of Terry Pratchett somehow, recognizable and endearing. Great read.

Adrian Tchaikovsky is the author of the acclaimed Shadows of the Apt fantasy series and the epic science fiction blockbuster Children of Time. He has been nominated for the David Gemmell Legend Award and a British Fantasy Society Award. In civilian life he is a lawyer, gamer and amateur entomologist.
