The plot was very intriguing and I enjoyed the anticipation of what would come next. I wished there was more mermaid activity as that was what brought me to be interested in this book. However, overall it was decent. I think I just really struggled to connect with the writing style and found it dragging at points and hard to get through but I did appreciate the storyline. I'm interested in the sequel.

Among elemental, enchantment, time, restoration, and curse magic is soul magic. Soul magic, “Animancy” is a peculiar, yet awful magic that only resides within the royal line. An unlikely team bands together to work fix a major problem. The reader walks directly next to Amora, experiencing life and finding out truths along with her. Naturally a steadfast and duty-driven character, Amora learns what it is like to second-guess herself and that which she believes. Raised as royalty, she’s always willingly sacrificed herself for the greater-good. However, when the grounding for her standards is shaken, Amora must learn to fight for what she believes is right. "She’s more than her blood." Opposite of her character lies Bastion. Life as a pirate isn’t a kind one. Having to fend for himself, and living a relatively isolated life while cursed to his ship has forced him to grow into a complicated character. I’m a pirate...All my life I’ve had to play that role just to survive, and the more I played, the more the lines got blurred of who I really was. About the author

Adalyn Grace graduated from Arizona State University when she was nineteen years old. She spent four years working in live theater and acted as the managing editor of a nonprofit newspaper before studying storytelling as an intern on Nickelodeon Animation’s popular series The Legend of Korra. Adalyn splits time between San Diego and Arizona with her bossy cat and two dorky dogs, and spends her days writing full-time while trying to find the best burrito around. All the Stars and Teeth is her debut novel.
