About the author
1959년 서울 출생. 고려대학교에서 금속공학을 전공했고, 브라이스가우의 프라이부르크대학교와 뮌헨대학교에서 철학, 독일문학, 가톨릭 신학을 공부했다. 베를린예술대학교 철학·문화학 교수를 지냈다. 전 유럽과 한국에서 큰 반향을 일으킨 《피로사회》를 비롯하여 《폭력의 위상학》 《땅의 예찬》 《투명사회》 《심리정치》 《타자의 추방》 《시간의 향기》 《에로스의 종말》 《아름다움의 구원》 《선불교의 철학》 《권력이란 무엇인가》 《죽음과 타자성》 《하이데거 입문》 《헤겔과 권력》 등 예리하고 독창적인 사회 비평서와 철학책을 썼다.
