《古文觀止》是歷代漢民族散文總集，所選古文，以散文為主，兼收韻文、駢文，先秦選最多的是《左傳》，漢代選最多的是《史記》，唐宋時代選最多的是韓愈、柳宗元、歐陽修、蘇軾的文章，散文則有記人或記事，有議論寓言等等。

　　本書是《古文觀止》的注譯本，由題解、原文、注釋和譯文四部分構成，由於入選作品題材廣泛，代表性強，語言簡潔易明，篇幅短小精髓，言辭優美，因而一經出版便非常流行，成為文言文教學的經典教材。

吳楚材(1655～1719)

　　清代學者，吳調侯，清朝康熙年間人，與其叔吳楚材二人均飽覽經典，因合編《古文觀止》而留名後世，《古文觀止》是叔侄兩人選編和注釋的一部文言散文選集，編選此書的目的是「正蒙養而裨後學」，作為家塾訓蒙讀本，也是清以來最流行的散文選本之一，成書於清康熙三十四年(1695年)，付印問世以來，流傳甚廣，雅俗共賞，影響非常廣泛。
