About this audiobook

In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles -- micro-robots -- has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

As fresh as today's headlines, Michael Crichton'smost compelling novel yet tells the story of a mechanical plague and the desperate efforts of a handful of scientists to stop it. Drawing on up-to-the-minute scientific fact, Prey takes us into the emerging realms of nanotechnology and artificial distributed intelligence -- in a story of breathtaking suspense. Prey is a novel you can't put down. Because time is running out.

Excellent! It's hard to believe this book was written over 20 years ago! It makes Michael Crichton's work in this book all the more impressive to me. His imagination, along with scientific knowledge, truly created a horrific scenario. Even more frightening, I wonder if he ever knew just how close he was to knowing that what he wrote could truly be a reality in the not too far off future? The basic story revolves around two scientists, Jack & Julia, who have 3 children and live in Silicon Valley. Jack recently lost his job & is taking care of the children while Julia is attempting to make her mark in the ever fast-paced competitive technologically advancing world. Only Jack notices a major difference in Julia's behavior. It's not just with him, but with the children, her physical appearance, her rate of speech, and other oddities. As time moves on, Jack begins to think Julia is having an affair. He regains a job as a consultant and heads to Nevada, where he believes is the crux of Julia's issues. It is there where he finds the truth. The truth... the truth is so far beyond anything he'd ever imagined. What had they done!!! Why? No wonder his wife was behaving so erratically. If this wasn't stopped immediately, there would never be a way to regain control ever again. It was up to him to find a way to get in, infiltrate, and wipe out the entire new population without the others knowing before it was too late. Definitely recommend 👍 📚📚📚📚📚

Unfortunately very predictable. To the point where it frustrated me to sit through the logical dialog to uncover the obvious.
