About this audiobook

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Three orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point -- he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

Really well executed. Engaging plot with simple but effective ways of guiding the reader to certain conclusions. It feels like you slowly have revelations about what's happening at the same time as other characters, making it very personal. On rereading, the masterful choices for wording and descriptions are striking with the additional information you recognize they include after discovering the full plot. The book is written like Sage himself - it misleads you without ever really lying to you.

I first read these books when I was 10 and it was one of the few I had. Even today I love these books and it has inspired me to write as well. I highly recommend this book for young adults.
