About this audiobook

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • ONE OF TIME MAGAZINE'S 100 BEST MYSTERY AND THRILLER BOOKS OF ALL TIME • Before Doctor Sleep, there was The Shining, a classic of modern American horror. Jack Torrance takes a job as the caretaker of the remote Overlook Hotel. As the brutal winter sets in, the hotel's dark secrets begin to unravel.

“An undisputed master of suspense and terror.” —The Washington Post

Jack Torrance’s new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he’ll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote . . . and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

I may be biased in the sense that seeing the Stanley Kubrick film and listening to the audio book...it left me with many story gaps. I guess I expected more blood and gore. Nothing against Stephen King, of course, but i expected more. Loved the pace of the book and Campbell Scott has been my favorite narrator by far. Besides the subdued story, it was a great listen.

Book is good but the volume is much quieter than other audio books. Have to have it turned all the way up just to hear it.

Though I have both movie versions of "The Shining" my wife and I were Stephen King fans and I will carry on her memory of being a Stephen King fan.. I feel that no remake will ever take the place of the original. I have a deep respect factor for Mr. King though I never met the author but he is a very good author. Jack Torrance was a good caretaker though the Overlook Hotel had complete control over him that fateful winter. I would very much watch the movie as well as listen to this audiobook series as a tribute to Stephen King.
