About the author

Richard Price (1723-1791) was a Fellow of the Royal Society, a Nonconformist minister, and a distinguished mathematician. He was also a prominent member of the London Revolution Society set up to celebrate and spread the ideals of the Glorious Revolution and Bill of Rights of 1688-89.  His friends included Benjamin Franklin, David Hume, William Pitt, Lord Shelburne, and members of the American Congress.  He addressed Congress in 1778 and received (with George Washington) an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1781.
