About this audiobook

An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • WATCH THE EMMY-NOMINATED NETFLIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY • OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK • NAACP IMAGE AWARD WINNER • ONE OF ESSENCE’S 50 MOST IMPACTFUL BLACK BOOKS OF THE PAST 50 YEARS

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

I would not recommend this book. For a supposedly American woman, while sitting with her President husband, at a 4th of July Gala, to say, "All this for a damn flag" is slanderous and disgusting! Those of you having read the book, who gave it a 5 or 4 or 3 star rating, need to do much more research on "Michael" (the name Barack Obama called her twice in public). We bought our book off the rack for $2.99.

I am a Democrat and have always supported that chain for as long as I could. But like the Obama's in office this book is full of lies which makes me ever more mad that they would consider themselves having any form of democracy. She was kicked out of her home, she lost her lawyer license, her husband had the most absence days out of all former presidents and statistics show if you put all the former presidents together and count their breaks and vaction time, the Obama's alone beat the other family's in office together. They have set a unbreakable record for most days absent for vaction etc. He truly was the laziest president and it makes me mad other democrats support such a uneducated idiot who let's his wife write a book of lies of what the people want to hear. This must not be based on a true story, perhaps 14% of it contains brief turth.

READING the Actual Book was Awesome! It Saddens Hearts when Bullying & Critizing lacks Compassion. No Person is Perfect. Many who Wrote Negative Comments didnt spend a dime purchasing the book. So Unless You Grew Up in Her Circle, the lies & trash comments are Hypocritical in comparison & Unfair. I was Gifted the Book & I Purchased the Audio. The audio Was Not My Favorite. It reminded me of some of my computerized audio books; Without Emotion. Overall a Great Read, a Book Club Must!
