About this audiobook

When this bestselling autobiography was originally released, readers were shocked: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell was the darkest, funniest, most controversial, and best-selling rock book of its time—and it became the template, both visually and narratively, for almost every rock book since. Marilyn Manson is not just a music icon, it turned out, but one of the best storytellers of his generation. Written with bestselling author Neil Strauss and modeled on Dante's Inferno, this edition of The Long Hard Road Out of Hell features a bonus chapter not in the original hardcover. In the shocking and candid memoir, Manson takes readers from backstage to emergency rooms to jail cells, from the pit of despair to the top of the charts, and recounts his metamorphosis from a frightened Christian schoolboy into the most feared and revered music superstar in the country. Along the way, you'll hear what happens to fans—and celebrities—who dare to venture backstage with the one of the world's most dangerous rock stars. In the words of Elle magazine, the book ""makes Madonna's infamous Sex seem downright wholesome in comparison.""

I did read it when it first came out in the late 90s. I remember seeing him and thinking what a clown. I bought it on a drunken whim at a Dymocks or some such. it was $49 bucks which was alot for a clown looking dude I,d never heard. I read it back to front in a few days. then I heard beautiful people and I,ve been a huge fan ever since. going back over it at nearly 50 as opposed to 22 it seems extremely contrived and try hard which it is. He wrote this before he was even famous. he interviewed his own band before it existed. He definitely knows something about branding. he didn't become universally known till at least 5 years later as the Antichrist come to corrupt your kids. he was exactly what music needed and filled that gap Kurt left after he,d had enough and he's practically played as Manson since. the book now is cringe worthy as he trys to act tough but can't even pull it off in this. he,d be better served redoing it today. great read for fans but take it with a punch of salt.

A fantastic book, so many elements were surprisingly relatable to me, some even right now. There are a lot of humorous as well as dark moments that really make you feel like your inside the mind of this amazing rockstar. I particularly like the fact that you get to find out everything that happened behind the scenes while Marilyn Manson was making the album Antichrist Superstar, it's such a unique sounding album and concept and it's wonderful to be able to know how it came about. It explains a lot to the albums unique sound, when you understand the challenges that took place to create it. The narrator for this audiobook version James Patrick Cronin is fantastic, his delivery is spot on in every part of this book. Whether or not it is a Ebook, audiobook or physical copy, The long road out of hell is definitely worth adding to your collection.
