What does everyone in the modern world need to know?

Renowned psychologist Jordan B. Peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research.

Humorous, surprising and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.

What does the nervous system of the lowly lobster have to tell us about standing up straight (with our shoulders back) and about success in life? Why did ancient Egyptians worship the capacity to pay careful attention as the highest of gods? What dreadful paths do people tread when they become resentful, arrogant and vengeful?

Dr. Peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world's wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 Rules for Life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers.

Got to Rule 2, and endured an hour of childlike Christian philosophizing, that from my viewpoint as a former preacher and lifelong philosophy student, find failing Christianity and philosophy. The psychologist should stick to psychology. Any college student who had taken even an introduction to political philosophy will find this book devoid of any real lesson. Rather, all you will find are tidbits of T.S. Elliott, run through the gobbledegook of an armchair philosopher trying to mentally parse issues long since covered by discredited philosophy. It is as though a man on an island was air dropped a Bible with a few margin notes, and tried to invent philosophy from scratch.

It's another hyper sensitive Conservative who thinks because he's specialized in 1 field (psychology) he can pretend to be an expert in everything else. While I would normally just say 'oh well he doesn't know what he's talking about and it's a bad book - moving on'. Unfortunately the worst case scenario is happening here; lots of people agreeing with his rediculous ideas and pretending it's fact. Peterson is the latest in a slew of overly sensitive Ultra Conservatism without answers but a lot of blame to throw around. To me Peterson is an egotistical embarrassment to his actual field, the worst version of Conservatism and a disgrace to Canada.

Pseudointellectual garbage by a disgraced, mediocre (former) professor stepping far outside his field of ‘expertise’. If you’re a mediocre male afraid of being censured despite being represented at all levels of society and government, this book will make you feel good inside by telling you what you want to hear. If you’re the type of person that goes to their hair stylist for a cancer diagnosis, this book is made for you.

About the author

JORDAN B. PETERSON, raised and toughened in the frigid wastelands of Northern Alberta, has flown a hammer-head roll in a carbon-fiber stunt-plane, explored an Arizona meteorite crater with astronauts, and built a Kwagu'l ceremonial bighouse on the upper floor of his Toronto home after being invited into and named by that Canadian First Nation.
