This novel veers off the usual plot line with a missing U.S. Special Forces pilot in Afghanistan, and hints of military cover-up and separate case of a N.Y. mother & her 2 children fleeing their home. Starts out strong, but goes downhill quickly with multiple attacks and attempted kidnappings, yet our wily protagonists escape by clever thinking & physical strength. It ends with mother & children being chained in a cold barn. I'm like, is this author a sadist? No child would be able to recover from this level of trauma. Editor? Find your red pen.
