ā€œI can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!ā€ā€”Reese Witherspoon

ā€œPainfully beautiful.ā€ā€”The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the ā€œMarsh Girlā€ have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new lifeā€”until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Good book.. Narrator "dialects" are annoying. Narrator's breathy voice reminds me of Moira Rose's strange dialect in Schitt's Creek! Almost an exact duplicate of Moira's ridiculous, over-the-top, transatlantic Hollywood faux dialect. Sorry to seem rude, but you can Google all of the comments on Moira's dialect...which is an intentional spoof, listen to a clip, and laugh with me. PS- I have lived in the Carolinas my entire life and never heard a Southern dialect like this.

This is one of the most boring books I've ever tried to read. I'm about an hour in and nothing has really happened. Every time i think the story is going somewhere...it doesn't. I've heard great things about it and maybe it's fantastic at the end but I'll never find out. Don't waste your money unless you want to read it to help you sleep.

This is the 1st audio book that I have listened too. It takes a while to get used to listening, and not reading. The 1st 1/4 or so of the book was a bit drab, but then I couldn't stop listening!! I did not think Cassandra's voices were appealing to listen too...but I would read the book next time! It's a great story.
