About this audiobook

A former international hostage negotiator for the FBI offers a new, field-tested approach to high-stakes negotiations—whether in the boardroom or at home.

After a stint policing the rough streets of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris Voss joined the FBI, where his career as a hostage negotiator brought him face-to-face with a range of criminals, including bank robbers and terrorists. Reaching the pinnacle of his profession, he became the FBI’s lead international kidnapping negotiator. Never Split the Difference takes you inside the world of high-stakes negotiations and into Voss’s head, revealing the skills that helped him and his colleagues succeed where it mattered most: saving lives. In this practical guide, he shares the nine effective principles—counterintuitive tactics and strategies—you too can use to become more persuasive in both your professional and personal life.

Life is a series of negotiations you should be prepared for: buying a car, negotiating a salary, buying a home, renegotiating rent, deliberating with your partner. Taking emotional intelligence and intuition to the next level, Never Split the Difference gives you the competitive edge in any discussion.

Never Split the Difference. Best book I've ever read that took real life expertise and not only related, but choreographed it to the reader's life so well, I use it daily. Seriously this changed how I interact with other people. In a great way. Most beneficial to them and myself. Of all the "self-help" books I have read, this is by far the most thought provoking and biggest adaptation from a book I have ever utilized. Fascinating to know how people work, but more importantly, how to interact with everyone else, instead of worrying about how you want to be treated, knowing how to treat others as they WANT to be treated. Listened to at least 4 times on Audible in 6 months. When you learn of the 3 types of people, you will constantly be trying to assess which of the 3 they are, and how you can best interact with them. It's also extremely helpful to know which of the 3 types you are. Instead of falling for your weaknesses you can triumph with your newfound super powers. Get to that conversation under the conversation... and you'll find yourself dealing in ways you never knew you could.

I was taken aback by the touching interpretations and insights this preview had offered. I look forward to hearing the rest of the story and am grateful for the work done that influences the community and my own life in contrast. I appreciate the research and hard work put into this compelling case because there's so many different aspects involved, there is no linear solution and in that is the amazing idea of what you are doing.
