If you are craving a long distance 4,200-mile cross-country bicycle route like the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail or a shorter 256-mile mostly gravel adventure along a portion of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, this is the app for you. Travel confidently with at-your-fingertips cycling-specific info like elevation profiles, distance, riding conditions, location of bike shops, sources for food, and listings of overnight accommodations including camping facilities, small hotels, and cyclists-only lodging.

The Adventure Cycling Route Network features rural and low-traffic established bicycling routes through some of the most scenic and historically significant terrain in North America. Adventure Cycling’s Routes & Mapping department is constantly working on research and development of new routes as well as the maintenance of the over 54,000 miles of existing routes.

I am currently touring the southern tier, following the detour in AZ. I had purchased the entire ST route. Today the app updates automatically and my southern tier routs on the app are no longer there. Update: i was able to download the previously purchased maps and all worked very well. Not sure why i now get this message: "Error, unable to download maps" when i try to open up any Pacific Coast Route map

It's a nice idea, but the execution is not so good. The idea is to allow the rider to download segments of purchased maps. Unfortunately, current technology has outstripped the static map format. I would suggest that Adventure cycling consider integrating their map with Google Maps. Perhaps they could work collaboratively with Google Maps and the makers of the Transit app with the goal of making a fully integrated, real time map for those who choose to travel as cyclists/strap-hangers.

This app is not good for planning a ride. The map has no scale displayed so there is no way to visually judge distances. The interface to find the distance between 2 spots on route is clunky, and for loop routes only works in one direction (e.g. 2 spots 40 miles apart in the non-preferred direction on a 300 mile loop are listed as 260 miles apart). There should be a way to specify direction of travel. No information on how a route is typically broken up over different days is provided. I can't even find the total route length in the app for a purchased route (have to go back to the route catalog to find that). I plan to do the Texas Hill Country Loop and gave up using this app to plan the ride (too frustrating, especially on a phone screen). I tried loading the app on my Chromebook to have a larger screen, but could not get it to work. I ended up ordering the paper map. I'm hoping the app will be useful for following the route, but for ride planning it blows chunks.
