About this app

This app combines the data collected by the internal magnetometer with the three-dimensional mapping of ARCore to plot magnetic fields in real space superimposed upon the camera view.

Useful for students and teachers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and academic or industrial researchers, this app helps users to visualize magnetic fields based upon real sources—not prepared computational models—without the use of external sensors.

The actual total magnitude of the magnetic field at real points in space can be visualized with color-coded vectors or spheres to see changes in magnitude. A menu allows the user to learn more about the operating principles of the magnetometer, display compass directions in the field of view, and change settings to display/remove magnetic field values and modify the color key.

The idea is cool, and it does work somewhat, but there are two problems with it: 1) on my Galaxy S8+ (Exynos) it has frequent slowdowns and crashes, maybe it is running out of ram? 2) when trying to visualize the magnetic field over a bigger volume, the arrows are just too small and hard to see, so it would be cool to have a setting for the arrow size.

The moment that it is exposed to a source of high emf (I experimented with an air conditioner and a microwave oven. Both should have low readings when off and very high readings when on). When I turned on the units the meter went from low emf blue spheres and remained that way until the app locked my phone both times that a high emf was presented to it. Good idea. Doesn't work though. UNINSTALL!!!

It's awesome to see the direction of the magnetic waves where I am. I'm curious to open this app when traveling to see which way the waves are directed in different parts of the world.
