The app seemed to work well on the LG Stylo 5 at first. It boots up and connects to the Specdrums properly and updates the firmware as designed. There are plenty of preset libraries of sounds and looped tracks to sort through and download. The specdrums work well with the app. I rated this a 3 because no matter what library I load, one or two "notes" (for lack of a better term) will fail to strike and play properly. At first I thought this had to do with a bad library download, but then I found that the note that would not work was random. One time loading a particular library it might be orange that does not work, and the next time it is green or blue. Based on the onscreen key being lit, it properly detects when a note is struck and released, it will just only play the quickest sliver of sound on these notes and then go silent, even though it still detects the note being held properly (key is lit on the phone screen) until I lift up the specdrum ring. I love the rings. I love the concept. The app interface is great and extremely intuitive, it just has this one bug that keeps me from fully enjoying it.

The loops are fun, and I was able to record the audio, but it was with a seperate interior audio recording app. the lag is not too bad, but I experienced some problems in that every time I left the app alone for 2 minutes, my library tracks are different. I have to change the colors and audio clips again. It isn't that much of a hassle though and it is a great concept, just in the early days of the app.

The Android version is not updated with all the functions as the ios version. The Android version has a delay with renders the device frustrating. The delay makes it impossible to match the beats that you hear/play. I tried with multiple Android phones, including my Samsung Galaxy S8. I do not recommend if you are an Android user. On that note, the ios version on my son's old iPod touch works great. The ios version experiences no delay and has record song functions. And has Specdrums Music app.

HI Ross -- For Android users, audio latency can vary significantly across different devices due to limitations outside of the Specdrums MIX app. Google Pixel phones are our preferred devices. Android latency can be reduced when using your Specdrums rings with Bluetooth enabled MIDI synthesizer applications. We have updates coming in the future.
