About this game

Taipan was a home computer game from the early '80s that was fun and addicting despite its lack of graphics. It invented the trading-game genre. Taipan was inspired by the famous novel of the same name.

This Android version is modeled after the popular home computer version. The infamous bug in the original game remains in this version.

Like Being Back In the 80's! This was the first computer game I ever played (1985) and this works almost exactly like the Apple IIc version. The only difference is, that in the original version, you could fire 1 full volley of your cannons and then "run away" successfully almost instantly. Anyone who writes a complaint about this game, is someone who cannot appreciate the simplicity and nostalgia of the greatest decade in the 20th century.

The game is fun enough, but you can't say you haven't tweaked it. I've had it downloaded for about two years now and the original was spot on to the game I played on an Apple IIe in the 80s. I could build up to 100s of guns, play well into the 1900s and score massively. I can still score decently well, but the imbalance of attacking ships to my limited ability to obtain guns is not a representation of the original game.

Just like the original Apple 2 game I played ages ago, including the bug that lets you pay back more than you owe to the loan shark. Great game! It's too bad the negative debt doesn't count towards your score, but it is still a great way to earn interest quickly. Just have to take enough out of bank to get the negative loaned back to you from Brother WU when you are ready to retire.
